Born into a family of winegrowers (his parents run Obuse Winery in Nagano), he grew up in close contact with the vineyards before studying oenology and microbiology at the Tokyo University of Agriculture. He later refined his vision over nearly ten years at Coco Farm Winery, through extensive travel and a deep admiration for the vineyards of the Jura and Burgundy.

Driven by the desire to create a human-scale project, entirely rooted in the land and its terroir, Takahiko chose Yoichi for its cool climate and volcanic soils. The Nana Tsu Mori vineyard, where seven kinds of fruit trees such as apples and cherries were once planted, is now planted primarily with Pinot Noir across 5,0 hectares. The vines are farmed without chemical inputs, following a rigorous and regenerative agricultural approach in which observation and adaptation take precedence over intervention.

In the face of Hokkaido’s sometimes extreme conditions, Takahiko considers himself first and foremost a farmer, deeply connected to his land and his community. Around him, a new generation of winemakers has emerged in Yoichi, whom he supports and inspires, making Domaine Takahiko one of the most influential and respected projects in contemporary Japanese viticulture.
