Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg was founded in 1933 when Jeanne Gibourg and André Mugneret, married in 1928, moved to Vosne-Romanée. The estate took shape with parcels in Bourgogne, Vosne, Nuits “Au Bas de Combe,” and Echezeaux. Their son Georges, an ophthalmologist in Dijon, soon decided to continue his parents’ work, balancing his medical career with winemaking. In 1953, he acquired Clos Vougeot, founding Domaine Georges Mugneret. Over time, he expanded the vineyard holdings with important crus such as Nuits 1er Cru Les Chaignots, Les Vignes Rondes, Ruchottes-Chambertin (1977), and Chambolle 1er Cru “Les Feusselottes” (1986).
In 1958, during his military service in Algeria, Georges met Jacqueline, a teacher born in Algiers who followed him to Burgundy out of love. They had two daughters, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée.
When Georges passed away prematurely in 1988, he had already planned to sell the domaine. However, faced with Jacqueline and her daughters, the buyer kindly encouraged them to reconsider. That moment forever changed the company’s fate: the three women, with courage and determination, chose to carry on Georges’ legacy.
In 2009, the historic Mugneret-Gibourg domaine was officially merged with the paternal estate, creating Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, now a symbol of elegance, rigor, and sensitivity. Alongside Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée are their daughters, representing a feminine generational continuity.
The production approach focuses on absolute quality. Vineyard management is careful and non-interventionist, with deliberately low yields: from the 8 hectares of vines, between 20,000 and 30,000 bottles are produced annually, characterized by a refined, silky, and always recognizable style. The domaine’s wines fully reflect the delicacy and balance of the feminine hand guiding every stage of the production process.
