To tell the story of Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, we must go back seven generations, to the late 18th century, when the Berthaut family purchased their first hectares of vineyard in Fixin. For nearly a century, the wines produced were never bottled under the Domaine’s name but sold wholesale.
It was the young Guy Berthaut, who took over the business at just 18 years old, who began bottling their own wines. Despite his youth, Guy had a clear vision for the future: he bought several plots in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, a move that allowed him to start exporting wines to the United States.
With the arrival of his sons Vincent and Denis, the company entered a new phase of expansion: additional hectares were purchased and a new cellar dedicated to aging was built. Denis, marrying Marie-Andrée Gerbet from Domaine François Gerbet in Vosne-Romanée, united two important family legacies. From their marriage came Amélie, who after inheriting the vineyards of both parents, officially founded Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet in 2013.
Today, the Domaine covers 18 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious Grand Cru appellations such as Clos Vougeot and Echezeaux. Since 2017, Amélie has been supported by her husband Nicolas Faure, responsible for agronomic management.
In the cellar, the approach is deliberately minimal intervention: the goal is to best express the purity of the fruit and the authentic character of the terroir.
