Since 1872, Château Lafleur has belonged to the same family, now in its fifth generation. From the mid-1980s onward, the estate has been managed by the Guinaudeau family, who continue to uphold its legacy with the same dedication and respect for tradition.
Even before becoming renowned producers, the Guinaudeaus were vignerons in the truest sense of the word: deeply connected to their land and personally involved every day in both vineyard and cellar work. Their story is also closely tied to Château Grand Village, in the Fronsac region, which they have managed since the 17th century.
The secret behind the extraordinary complexity of Lafleur’s wines lies in the remarkable diversity of its 4.5-hectare vineyard, planted equally with Bouchet (old genetic strain of Cabernet Franc) and Merlot. The parcels are spread over different soil types: a gravel slope to the northwest, gravel-clay soils to the south, sandy-gravel soils to the east, and a central vein of pure clay, from which Les Pensées is born.
This unique combination of grape varieties, soils, and microclimates gives the wines incomparable depth and finesse, making Lafleur one of the most prestigious and sought-after names in Bordeaux.
The Guinaudeau family is known for its strong commitment to traditional winemaking techniques, combined with meticulous vineyard management practices. The same philosophy extends across the six wines they produce: Lafleur and Les Pensées in Pomerol, and Les Perrières, Les Champs Libres, Grand Village Rouge and Grand Village Blanc in Mouillac, at Château Grand Village.
Starting with the 2025 vintage, all wines produced by Société Agricole de Lafleur will be classified as Vin de France, even though the wines themselves remain unchanged: the same terroir, the same genetic heritage, the same family, the same team, and the same philosophy.
This decision allows Lafleur to continue producing its wines while preserving their typicity and distinctive character, safeguarding the Château’s invaluable heritage. It is a necessary evolution in order to remain true to itself while adapting to the challenges of climate change.
All wines signed by the Guinaudeau family share a clear vision: to authentically express both terroir and vintage, with the utmost respect for the identity of each place. A philosophy that has made Lafleur a timeless icon.
