Philine Isabelle: listening to nature to create authentic wines in the Langhe

The story of Philine Isabelle is one of the most fascinating in the Langhe. German by birth and Piedmontese by adoption, she gained her first experiences in the world of wine across Germany, Austria, and Italy, honing her winemaking sensitivity through a journey rich in encounters and harvests. Among the most significant stops along her path are Domaine Labet in the Jura and, above all, her experience with Giuseppe Rinaldi in Piedmont, which made her discover her love for Nebbiolo and its land.

With great determination and sacrifice, Philine managed to lease small plots from which she now produces Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo, alongside a few rows of Chardonnay. Her agricultural philosophy is clear and rigorous: no chemical treatments, minimal interventions, and a deep respect for the natural balance of the vineyard. When working the soil, she always does so in synergy with biodynamic preparations and herbal ferments designed to stimulate the vitality of the land without depleting it with heavy machinery.

A telling anecdote from her journey is about an elderly neighboring winemaker who once told her, “You have the most beautiful vineyard of all here, yet you surely spend less time in the vineyard than we do.” This observation perfectly encapsulates her philosophy: man must not force nature but rather listen to it and work in harmony with it.

In her cellar in Monforte d’Alba, in the Bussia area, everything follows a natural rhythm: spontaneous fermentations, aging in large barrels, and essential winemaking processes. The production is limited, leading her to make careful and precise choices.
