Domaine Duroché

The history of Domaine Duroché spans five generations, beginning with Louis and continuing to Pierre. What started as a simple farming estate with a few vines around the house is now a leading estate with 8.5 hectares of property, all in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin.

The first bottling dates back to 1933, in the old cellar next to the village church. But for Philippe, Pierre’s grandfather, that space was no longer adequate for the Domaine’s needs. Using his savings, in 1955 he purchased a new cellar at 7 Place du Monument, where he installed the sign “Domaine Duroché.” In the same year, he also bought a small plot within the Grand Cru Clos de Bèze.

Today, more than ninety years after the first bottle, the Domaine includes four Grand Crus and six Premier Crus, all located in Gevrey-Chambertin.

In 2005, Pierre officially joined the estate alongside his father Gilles and gained full control of the Domaine that same year. From then on, he began a deep transformation: deciding to vinify all of the estate’s grapes internally, which until a few years prior had been partly sold to négociants. He introduced environmentally respectful farming practices, completely eliminating the use of synthetic chemicals and returning to horse-drawn work on some plots to reduce soil compaction.

Today, together with his wife Marianne, Pierre has succeeded in turning Domaine Duroché into a benchmark not only for the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin but for the entire Côte de Nuits.
