Nicolas Faure: The determination of a winemaker who built his Domaine from scratch

Domaine Nicolas Faure is located in Meuilley, near Nuits-Saint-Georges. The winery was born from Nicolas’s determination and strong passion for wine. Having no family background in vineyards or wineries, Nicolas created his own winery entirely on his own, starting from scratch.

Although he is not a son of winemakers, after studying at the Beaune University of Enology, Nicolas began an internship at Domaine de la Romanée Conti and later worked with Jean-Louis Chave, both in the vineyards and in the cellar during the harvest.

Back in Burgundy in 2010, after some travels around the world, he returned to Domaine de la Romanée Conti, where he stayed for five years. The only way to realize his dream and start his own domaine was to work hard with other producers. He also began working part-time at Domaine Prieuré-Roch.

During those years, Nicolas acquired a plot of land in Nuits-Saint-Georges called “Les Herbues.” Confident in his skills and the knowledge gained over the years, he expected a quality level comparable to a Grand Cru.

His first vintage was vinified in a friend’s cellar and is the “Les Herbues” 2011, the result of a non-interventionist, organic approach without the use of chemicals. Only in 2014 did Nicolas have the means to build a small winery in Meuilley and begin vinifying other small leased parcels.

Nicolas’s talent and passion will take him far. Although his production is still very limited, his wines are already impressive, and his future looks very bright.
